TEXAS ISLAND PLANTATION, MOON LAKE, Mississippi — John Joseph Mohead Sr., 84, a partner in Mohead Planting Company and retired farmer, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2016, at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.

He was born Aug. 6, 1931, in Memphis to Guy Tedford Mohead and Helen Neill Mohead. He attended Riverside Military Academy before graduating from Lula Rich High School. He attended Mississippi State University majoring in Agricultural Science. He was married to the former Mary Ann Robinson in 1952. They were married for 58 years until her death in 2010. He was a lifetime member of Lula United Methodist Church. He was a founding board member of Lula Rich Educational Foundation (now Lee Academy), member of the Board of Trustees of Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center for 27 years, past president of the Mississippi Pecan Growers Association, member of Mississippi Cattleman’s Association, member of Southeastern Pecan Growers Association, advisory board member of Coahoma Bank, Sunburst Bank and Deposit Guaranty National Bank, member of Board of Trustees of Lula United Methodist, member of Delta  Council and member of Moon Lake Improvement Club.

Mr. Mohead is survived by daughter Nancy Mohead Callahan and husband James of Oxford; son John Mohead, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Moon Lake; grandchildren Phil Daughdrill and wife Susan of Tupelo, Matt Daughdrill and wife Wendy of Bruce, John Joseph Mohead III and Henry Mohead of Moon Lake; great-grandchildren John Braxton and Hopson Daughdrill of Tupelo and Abby and Bella Daughdrill of Bruce. He is also survived by brother-in-law Bill Robinson and wife Pearl of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and sister-in-law Margaret Robinson of Winona.

Mr. Mohead is preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Robinson Mohead; daughter Ann Mohead Whittle; parents Guy and Helen Neill Mohead and siblings Neill Mohead Myers, James Mohead, Elizabeth Mohead Brahan, Guy Mohead, Jr., Jean Mohead Dunlap, William H. Mohead and Eloise Mohead.

The family is most grateful for the caregivers: Recie Tate, Gloria Taylor, Lucille Nailor, Curtis Sharkey and Albert Allen.  Also, a special thanks is given to Sta-Home Healthcare: Heather Jennings, Logan Simmons and Mildred Wright.

Visitation for Mr. Mohead will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday at Lula United Methodist Church in Lula, with burial to follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, is handling the arrangements.
