John Robert Rayburn

OXFORD — John Robert “Bob” Rayburn, 90, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Allen and the Rev. Eddie Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. A catered reception and visitation will be held in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home, this evening from 4-6 p.m.

Born in Tremont, to the late Loama Melvin and Eula Mae Stuckey Rayburn, Mr. Rayburn was retired from the University of Mississippi where he worked as Superintendent of Utilities and Senior Utilities Engineer for more than 35 years. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a bomber pilot during World War II, flying B-25’s and achieving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University. Mr. Rayburn was a faithful member of First Baptist Church. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Mississippi Engineering Society and the Oxford Rotary Club. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Dale Jefcoat Rayburn.

Mr. Rayburn is survived by his son, Robert Kent Rayburn of Memphis, Tennessee.
