The Apple iPhone 7 release date 2016 is nearing and a recent hint suggests it may be on September 23.

Apple historically releases new iPhones in September so it isn’t a big surprise that the latest report suggests the official release date is September 23. But the big hint discovered by the tech site 9 to 5 Mac suggests that September 23 is the Apple iPhone 7 release date because ATT&T’s retail schedule targets the dates September 9 and September 23, 2016.

Apparently, September 9 is when preorders would take place and September 23 is when orders would be filled and available.

From 9 to 5 Mac: “A new detail to consider comes in the form of a leaked AT&T retail schedule (below) detailing upcoming merchandising reset hours. Specifically, the guidance calls out September 9 and September 23 as dates for merchandising resets. This could suggest that advertising for pre-orders could be planned for September 9 as expected and new iPhone models could hit the floor on September 23, a week later than previously expected.”

The iPhone 7 from Apple may not even be called the iPhone 7, of course. It isn’t expected to be radically different from the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S so the company may opt for a different name than iPhone 7.

But, each year a new iPhone design approaches consumers typically refer to the next one by the next number in the order until the official name is released.

Apple first released the iPhone in 2007. It has become the world’s most popular smartphone.
