The students are back

Don’t go to Walmart. Or Kroger. Or anywhere, really, if you want to maintain your sanity this weekend.

Sound familiar?

It’s a new school year at Ole Miss, which means things just got a whole lot busier around this little town (which hasn’t really been all that “little” in several years).

The University of Mississippi is second only to Alabama among the nation’s fastest-growing flagship universities. Lafayette County’s growth is following suit, along with discussions about how to keep up with the population increase, as you might have read in yesterday’s paper.

Add the fact that all eyes are on Oxford and the Rebels’ fight for the top of the SEC West, and well, chances are you’ll find yourself a bit frustrated a time or two over the next few months whether it’s running errands, finding parking spots or simply navigating the crowds pouring into Oxford most weekends on top of what’s sure to be another historic enrollment year for the university.

Our advice? Breathe. Count to ten. Maybe squeeze one of those stress balls you can buy for a buck at the drugstore. Remember while yes, it’s a lot busier and more crowded, it means what we’ve all known for years: Oxford is one of the best places to visit, and an even better place to live, whether it’s for four years or for the rest of our lives.

Hotty Toddy to that.
