This answer will have to be enough.

Today’s preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board about the plane crash that killed pilot Dr. Jason Farese, along with passengers Dr. Lea Farese, Dr. Michael and Kim Perry, and Dr. Austin and Angie Poole is an important step in grieving and healing.

No more speculation about how the crash may have happened. Now we know that the crash resulted from both fuel pumps failing.

The NTSB’s report is preliminary; we won’t have a final report until next year.

But, we now know officially that Dr. Jason Farese reported a fuel pump failure while flying over Alabama on the way home to Oxford.

We also know that while attempting to divert to the nearest airport, the airplane’s second fuel pump was lost.

Having an answer regarding how this tragedy happened allows the community to have some sort of closure, but it’s also a tragic reminder to keep the focus where it belongs: on the family and friends of those who died in the crash.

Oxford continues to mourn as a community and remember those lost and the impacts they made.
