George Winston Tatum, age 76, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. today at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. A graveside service will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the Browning Cemetery in Lafayette County with Bro. Robert Frierson officiating.

He was born Nov. 10, 1939 in Water Valley to the late Ira Lee and Willie Mae Varner Tatum. He grew up in the Taylor Community outside Oxford, served in the United States Navy and attended Taylor Baptist Church in Lafayette County. Over the years he worked as a carpenter; for Taylor Water Association; and as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing poker; and he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest Lee Tatum and Ira Edward Tatum.

He is survived by two daughters, Melissa Tatum Williams of Oxford and Tina Tatum Frierson of Water Valley; two brothers, Howard Tatum and Milton Tatum, all of Taylor; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
