The United Way of Oxford and Lafayette County (UWOLC) has partnered with the Crosstown Classic to launch the first-ever Crosstown Classic Text to Donate campaign.

Tonight, the Oxford Chargers and the Lafayette Commodores will not only be competing on the field, but will also be competing to determine who can raise the most money for our community.

Each school is assigned a special code which enables their donations to count toward their school’s total giving:

Email newsletter signup

•Lafayette County Commodores text “DORES” to 40403

•Oxford Chargers text “CHARGERS” TO 40403

The Text to Donate campaign will begin at 6 p.m. and last until the fourth quarter of the football game. You don’t have to be at the game to participate. If you are listening to the game, simply text to donate.

Anyone donating $25 or more will receive a free t-shirt at the Crosstown Classic football game, which will be held at Bobby Holcomb Field on the Oxford Middle School campus.

A trophy worthy of the Super Bowl will be presented to the Crosstown Classic United Way Challenge winner’s school officials and student body during a special planned school presentation.

“United Way is so excited to be partnering with the Chargers and Commodores. We know that LOU has a wonderful philanthropic spirit,” said Kathy Williams, associate director of United Way. “This challenge offers an opportunity for Commodores and Charger fans to continue that philanthropic spirit and make a difference in our community while having fun. Please join us for the first-ever Crosstown Classic United Way Challenge. Your donation will determine who will bring the trophy home.”
