It seems to becoming all too commonplace in America.

It seems we wake up every morning with news of another fatal shooting involving law enforcement and black men. This week is no exception.

Law enforcement deserves our respect and support, there is no doubt. But when video surfaces such as the one depicting the fatal shooting of Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it’s hard not to argue officers were at fault in killing the unarmed man in the middle of the road as he walked with his arms above his head near his SUV that had apparently broken down.

Yes, Crutcher had previous run-ins with the law, served time in prison and may have been using drugs at the time of the shooting. But that is not justification for the actions of Tulsa law enforcement.

At the same time, not all law enforcement should be judged by the actions of their fellow officers. In fact, an off-duty officer is being credited in Minnesota for killing an knife-wielding attacker who went on a rampage in a mall and may have ties to radical Islam.

Crutcher’s death and the shooting of an armed black man in Charlotte, North Carolina, has sparked riots and looting disguised as protesting in that city.

But we all must come to grips with the reality that there are serious issues in our country and they must be dealt with through dialogue and not violence.
