OXFORD — Melvin Joe “Snake” Brooks, 60, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, following a landscaping accident in Oxford.

Viewing will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday with visitation from 5-7 p.m. at the Major Pearson Building, 38-F Highway 334, Oxford. Funeral services will be held Saturday at St. John M.B. Church with the Rev. Harold Johnson officiating and burial will be in the church cemetery. Payton Mortuary is in charge of services, assisted by LaVera Hodges.

He is survived by his children, Stephanie Burt, Tamala Buford, Tabitha Burt, Melvin Turner and Cody Turner, all of Oxford; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two sisters, Rosie Fox of Memphis, Tennessee and Georgia Houston of Tolleson, Arizona; three  brothers, Floyd Brooks of Oxford, Walter Brooks of Albany, New York and George Brooks of Jacksonville, Florida.
