Black Moon 2016 tonight: time, meaning, witchcraft association

Published 11:09 am Friday, September 30, 2016

The Black Moon 2016 is rising tonight.

It isn’t actually black in color and we won’t be able to see it but the Black Moon is gaining attention today because the moon is often a key component of spell casting and the Black Moon, which appears only ever two-and-a-half years or so always draws attention in areas of witchcraft.

The black moon is when the illuminated side of the moon is trapped in the shadow of the earth, meaning it is virtually impossible to see. So, don’t expect to see the black moon this Friday.

The black moon is also when a second new moon rises within the same month. So, Friday September 30th is another new moon for this month since we had one on September 1, 2016.

New moons typically occur once per month, but his isn’t a rare occurrence; the last Black Moon occurred in March, 2014. Thus, the so-called Black Moon occurs about every 32 months.

But here is the problem with the black moon 2016: you won’t see it. Because the sunlit side of the moon faces away from the Earth, there is really nothing to see.

The black moon time for rising is at 8:11pm Eastern Time (5:11pm Pacific Time) on Friday, September 30 for those in the Western Hemisphere.

From National Geographic: “New moons occur when the moon’s orbit takes it between Earth and the sun, leaving the lunar orb’s unilluminated side facing Earth. At night, this phase of the moon is impossible to see: Since new moons are in the same part of the sky as the sun, they rise and set with the sun and are overwhelmed by its glare.”

Some on the Internet like to use such astrological events to promote fears, like the end of the world.
