A man running from police allegedly had his wife call police and report the vehicle stolen.
According to the Oxford Police Department, on Tuesday, officers attempted to stop a sport utility vehicle for speeding. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
Shortly after the pursuit began, a woman called 911 to report her vehicle had been stolen, which was the vehicle being actively pursued by law enforcement.
The suspect wrecked the vehicle in the Shiloh sub-division off Old Taylor Road and the drive was identified as John Anderson of Oxford who was taken into custody after a brief foot chase. The woman reporting the car stolen was identified as Anderson’s wife and later told investigators that she was on contact with her husband during the pursuit and he told her to call 911 to report the car stolen, which could lead to charges for filing a false report.
John Anderson was arrested and booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. His wife, Kathlyn Anderson was charged with false reporting of a crime and taken to the detention center where she was booked on a $5,000 bond.
OPD investigators say more charges will be filed as the investigation continues.
