Green Party candidate for President Dr. Jill Stein will meet Mississippians at a Student Town Hall on Monday at The Lyric Oxford, 1006 Van Buren Avenue at 11th Street, just west of the Square.  Doors open at 6 PM, with information tables, networking opportunities, and music by Greg Johnson, Keith Moore and Shaundi Wall.
The Town Hall, moderated by local small business owner Ron Shapiro, begins at 7 PM.  Following opening remarks by Jill Stein, students will pose questions to her live.
Her visit is sponsored by Popular Resistance, Mississippi Chapter, a sanctioned student activity group at Ole Miss, and the Green Party of Mississippi.
Jill Stein and her running mate, Ajamu Baraka ( www.ajamubaraka.com ), are on the ballot in Mississippi and 44 other states — “plenty to win the electoral college,” she says, and voters in 3 additional states can write them in.  An October visit by Mr. Baraka to Jackson will be announced soon.
The Stein/Baraka platform ( http://www.jill2016.com/plan ) calls for “canceling student debt to free a generation from indentured servitude to Wall Street” and guaranteeing tuition-free public higher education.  It also commits them to a Green New Deal with millions of jobs to achieve 100% clean renewable energy by 2030;   investing in public transit, sustainable agriculture, and conservation;  racial justice and human rights;  and establishing rights to education, health care, and jobs for all.Dr. Stein’s livestream of her responses to the questions asked of Clinton and Trump at the first debate has been viewed on her Facebook page ( http://facebook.com/drjillstein ) over a million times.  Stein’s exclusion from the debate and ejection from the Hofstra University campus were protested by many hundreds of supporters facing over 1,000 police.
