Day of Giving is tomorrow

Mississippians are known throughout our state and nation as some of the most charitable and giving people, despite also being near the bottom in per capita income. According to “The Chronicle of Philanthropy,” Mississippi ranks number two in the nation in charitable giving.

That speaks volumes about the people that we are and there is no doubt than on Thursday we will once again see how true that giving spirit rings true.

Thursday is Mississippi’s annual “Day of Giving” where nonprofits around the state raise funds, recruit volunteers and raise awareness for their causes. The effort is to engage donors from across the state and round the country in connecting Mississippians with causes they care about.

Day of Giving allows organizations the opportunity to reach thousands of potential donors.

Locally, there are several nonprofits worthy of receiving donations for their causes. One such Day of Giving event will take place at The Growler on North Lamar where from 6 p.m. to midnight special beer purchases will benefit the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and the Oxford Film Festival.

Have a brew and help a good cause or if you prefer, donate to other worthy causes in our community.
