George Edwin Adams, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at The Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. The funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Etta, with the Rev. Bobby Irvin officiating. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Cemetery. Visitation will be held beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Etta, to the late George Ford and Dorothy Harriett Bonds Adams, Mr. Adams was a retired chemical supervisor at Quaker Oates and Great Lakes Chemical Company. He attended Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. He was a member of the American Legion and found great pleasure in golfing and woodworking. He was an avid reader. He loved to travel with his wife and accomplished his goal of visiting all 48 states in the continental United States. He enjoyed spending time with his large family of nieces and nephews and thanks to his son-in-law, was learning to be a fan of the Florida Gators. Mr. Adams was proud to be a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. He loved holding hands with his beloved wife of 66 years.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bruce Adams of Lakeland, Tennessee, and two daughters, Debbie Mullikin of Bedminster, New Jersey and Donna Vickery and her husband Gary of Lakeland, Tennessee.
