The commitment from MaxxSouth to make Oxford a Gig city with fiber-to-the-home connections and service to residents and businesses of up to 1 Gigabit (1,000 Megabits per second) of high-speed Internet service is a proverbial game-changer for the community.

Oxford and Lafayette County’s quest to attract entrepreneurial companies, technology startups and work-from-home individuals connected to larger companies needed one key element: state-of-the-art connectivity and Internet speed.

Now, MaxxSouth has committed to making that happen over the next few years by making Oxford one of America’s coveted Gig cities – with 1 Gigabit Internet service the company promises to deliver at affordable pricing.

The cable television, high-speed Internet and digital phone provider says it will service 3,000 homes in Oxford with its Gig service initially before ultimately covering its entire service area in Oxford and Lafayette County.

That’s a bold commitment, and one that would transform the community for its ability to promote quality of life to potential new residents and recruit the types of entrepreneurial and so-called smart businesses we want to bring to Oxford and Lafayette County.

We believe this commitment from MaxxSouth is an important step in the right direction for Oxford’s future, and a needed component to shaping how and where we want to go.
