Man charged with armed robbery

A Verona man was arrested Wednesday for allegedly robbing two people at gunpoint in October.

According to the Oxford Police Department, on Oct. 2, Demarcus Carr, 24, walked up to two individuals while they were talking home from the Square and robbed them at gunpoint. During the robbery, both of the victim’s phones were stolen. No one was injured.

Investigators were able to track one of the phones to the Verona area and were able to identify the suspect after meeting with the victims. After a warrant was issued, Carr was picked up during a traffic stop near Verona.

Carr was brought to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $50,000 bond; however is also being held by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a previous narcotics charge.
