Dorothy Byrd Smith Dickey

OXFORD — Dorothy Byrd Smith Dickey, 88, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, at The Blake in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Waller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday Nov. 16, 2016, from 1-2 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home.

She was born in Memphis and lived there with her family until the mid-70s, when she and her husband and younger two children moved to Potts Camp. She and her husband remained there until 2014 when they relocated to Oxford. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She was a member of Potts Camp United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Dickey was a homemaker and had formerly worked as a controller at the Kellogg company in Memphis, Tennessee.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, George A. Dickey Jr., a brother, Louis G. Smith and wife Doris; Four children, Sandra Darnell and husband Larry, Pat Dickey and wife Jan, Joe Dickey and wife Melissa, and Tom Dickey and wife Karen. Her eight grandchildren are Karen, Joshua, Amanda, Ben, Riley, Ross, Lauren, and Olivia. She had seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of Bartlett W. Smith and Ida Louise Williams Smith. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Smith Johnson and a brother, Joseph B.W. Smith.
