POPLARVILLE, Miss. (AP) — County supervisors and engineers will meet with state officials next month to try to draw legislative attention to the problem of Mississippi’s aging roads and bridges.

The Hattiesburg American reports the Mississippi Association of Supervisors and the Mississippi Association of County Engineers are sponsoring a 2016 County Road Show with five events throughout the state. They are coming to Pearl River Community College in December.

Steve Gray, Mississippi Association of Supervisors’ director of governmental affairs, says the goal of the meeting is to bring awareness to the need for improving of the state’s infrastructure.

In a 2015 report, the Mississippi Economic Council said an investment of an additional $375 million annually is needed to address the most vital road and bridge needs.
