Ole Miss offensive line coach Matt Luke is one of 40 nominees for the Broyles Award, the award’s foundation announced Wednesday.

The award, named after former Missouri and Arkansas coach Frank Broyles, annually honors the nation’s top assistant college football coach. Five finalists will eventually be selected before the winner is announced on Dec. 6.

Luke, who also serves as the Rebels’ co-offensive coordinator, has coached an offensive line that’s produced despite being beat up throughout the season. Ole Miss leads the Southeastern Conference in passing offense and ranks fifth in total offense while using four different starting combinations up front. Injuries to Robert Conyers, Sean Rawlings and Rod Taylor have forced the Rebels to move guard Javon Patterson to center and start freshmen Greg Little and Alex Givens at tackle.

A center for Ole Miss from 1995-98, Luke is in his second stint at his alma mater. He’s also coached at Murray State, Tennessee and Duke.
