The Oxford Police Department arrested a Jackson man Tuesday for being in possession of a firearm while being a felon.

According to OPD, Joseph Kelly, 33, was accused of stealing a firearm from a friend. When officers arrived, Kelly allegedly had the firearm in his front pants pocket. Kelly has a previous conviction of a felony, therefore by law he cannot possess a firearm.

Kelly was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $10,000 bond; however he had a hold on him by the Federal Probation Department.
