Recovery center needed, but is it in right location?

The proposed Stonewater Addiction Recovery Center in Lafayette County’s Clear Creek community is something needed in the area.
The planned drug and alcohol treatment center would house as many as 16 teenage males, ranging in age from 12 to 17, and we undoubtedly need this service in Lafayette County.
The big question facing Lafayette County Supervisors is where does the treatment center go. Currently, plans are for the treatment center to go in a residential neighborhood.
The Lafayette County Planning Commission approved the plan despite objections from nearby neighbors who fear having such a facility thrust into the middle of a neighborhood.
Halfway houses are common in residential neighborhoods throughout the country – but full-scale treatment facilities sometimes do, sometimes don’t, depending on the locality.
In this case, residents bring up a fair concern. Is this a commercial endeavor or is it something that belongs in a more commercial district?
That’s the question Lafayette County Supervisors will have to answer.
We do know that the treatment facility is a good idea and the endeavor is applauded. Lafayette County needs this facility. The question is only, where does it go?
