Commodores have community behind them

Lafayette High School will play for a state championship in football Saturday, and the entire community will be pulling for the Commodores.

The Class 4A MHSAA championship will be Michael Fair’s first as a head coach, since this is his first year in the lead position after many years of success as an assistant.  Reaching this level so fast is quite an accomplishment for Coach Fair.

We believe the Commodores have a good chance of winning Saturday, but it is important to recognize the accomplishment of just getting to this stage.

Lafayette began the season 0-2. However, beginning with a convincing win over Oxford in the crosstown classic and continuing through the state semifinals, the Commodores have been one of the more impressive teams in the state of Mississippi.

The hard work and focus by coaches and players throughout the year has been evident, and Lafayette schools have found a wonderful rallying point as the end of this first semester nears.

We are proud of all that the Lafayette Commodores football team has accomplished this year, regardless of how Saturday’s game against Poplarville goes. But, we also believe the Commodores have an excellent chance at becoming state champions.

Go Commodores.
