Cheek, from Nashville, had been an Ole Miss student, according to friends, but was working at a local bar this semester. She is remembered by friends for working at Camp Merrie-Woode as a counselor and for her work nurturing girls there.

“She brought joy and laughter to all who knew who,” said one friend, whose daughters were under her mentorship at camp.

Her death comes after the passing of Rivers McGraw, an Ole Miss student who died from suicide while struggling with drug addiction.

Another Ole Miss student, Raegan Barnhart, died just before Thanksgiving unexpectedly.
