The Oxford Park Commission approved hiring a local sports writer as its new Community Relations Director.
John Davis will be working with OPC and its partners in getting the word out about OPC’s programs, work with local media and be a liaison between the community and the OPC.
To meet the ever growing need of those who participate in a bevy of events each year, OPC Executive Director Seth Gaines created the position of community relations director.
This new position will incorporate interaction with the citizens of Oxford/Lafayette County via social media, print media, website management, and other methods of media.
“This is a new position for the OPC and one that we are proud to put in place,” Gaines said. “The implementation of a Community Relations Director shows that we are anxious to grow the programs offered by the Oxford Park Commission for the citizens of Oxford/Lafayette county.”
Gaines said Davis brings a wealth of knowledge of the community and about the services offered by OPC as he has spent more than 20 years in this community
“The public can look to him to promote and market our sports and activities,” Gaines said.
Davis is currently the sports editor for the Oxford Citizen and is a former sports editor of the Oxford EAGLE.
Davis said he looks forward to his new role at the OPC.
“It’s an honor to work for a leader like Seth Gaines, and alongside a forward thinking board of commissioners,” he said. “Both understand how vital the OPC is to city and county residents.
Davis said improved communications is the key in order to provide the absolute best possible service, as well as garner future participants in both sports and overall activities.
“The OPC has a bright future, with a number of important projects on the horizon,” he said. “We want the community to take an active part in those, and be an even bigger part of our success.”
