The latest additions to Ole Miss’ coaching staff are official.

After reports recently surfaced that Ole Miss had tabbed Bradley Dale Peveto as linebackers coach and Matt Lubick as wide receivers coach, the school announced both hires Friday. Peveto will also coach special teams.

The Rebels still need a defensive line coach with Chris Kiffin leaving to join his brother, Lane Kiffin, at Florida Atlantic as the Owls’ defensive coordinator.

Peveto spent the last three seasons on Les Miles’ staff at LSU as special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach but wasn’t retained by new LSU coach Ed Orgeron. Peveto, who was in his second stint at LSU, has also coached in the Southeastern Conference at Arkansas and Kentucky and was the head coach at Northwestern State from 2009-12.

“Coach Peveto’s experience is exactly what we need at the linebacker position and special teams,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “At LSU, he coached some of the nation’s best in those areas and won a national championship. He has also proven to be one of the best recruiters in the country, and we could not be more excited to welcome him to Ole Miss.”

LSU’s punt return defense ranked second in the SEC while the kick return defense was third this season under Peveto’s direction. Peveto also coached returner Tre’Davious White, who’s sixth in the league in punt return yards.

Linebackers Kendall Beckwith (91 tackles) and Duke Riley (85), who was recently named LSU’s team MVP, are the Tigers’ top two tacklers this season. In 2015, Peveto helped coach a linebacking corps that included Butkus Award finalist Deion Jones, a second-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons this year.

Lubick returns to Oxford after serving as Oregon’s offensive coordinator this season before head coach Mark Helfrich and his staff were let go following a 4-8 season. Lubick was Ole Miss’ wide receivers under Orgeron from 2005-06 and worked with Freeze on that staff, playing a key role in recruiting All-Southeastern Conference performer Dexter McCluster, who in 2009 became the first player in league history to have 1,000 rushing yards and 500 yards receiving in the same season.

Lubick, whose other coaching stops include Duke, Arizona State and Oregon State, doubled as Oregon’s receivers coach this season and spent the previous three seasons in that role full-time before being promoted to the coordinator position before the season. The Ducks are 18th nationally in total offense (491.7 yards per game), 28th in rushing (226.4), 29th in scoring (35.4 points per game) and 33rd in passing (265.3) this season.

“Coach Lubick worked with a prolific Oregon offense that ranked among the national leaders in every statistical category, including scoring, rushing and passing, and that experience will be invaluable as we elevate our offense,” Freeze said. “Having served alongside Matt in the past, I know the kind of coach, recruiter and man that he is. He will be a perfect fit for our staff.”

Lubick coached a pair of 1,000-yard receivers at Oregon in Josh Huff (1,140 in 2013) and Byron Marshall (1,003 in 2014). In 2014, Oregon set school records for passing yards (4,687) and passing first downs (198) while setting a Pac-12 record with 44 touchdown catches.

Lubick preceded his stint at Oregon with three seasons as Duke’s receivers coach from 2010-12. He was a finalist for AFCA Assistant of the Year and a Broyles Award nominee his final season with the Blue Devils after coaching Jamison Crowder, Conner Vernon and Desmond Scott, the nation’s only teammate trio to each have 65 receptions that season.

Lubick coached defensive backs at Arizona State from 2007-09 and at Oregon State from 1999-2000 while also serving as a recruiting coordinator for both.
