Virginia May Caldwell

HOUSTON – Virginia May Caldwell, 92, passed away Dec. 25, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born June 13, 1924 in Pontotoc County, to William Boyd May and Effie McCarver. Mrs. Caldwell married George Caldwell in 1947 and moved to Houston, MS, where they owned and operated Rexall’s Drug Store in Houston, MS for 35 years. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church in Houston, MS. She finished high school and went to Wood Jr. College and taught at Ingomar Grammar School for one year. Mrs. Virginia enjoyed many hobbies such as traveling, gardening, and playing Bridge.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Houston with Rev. Terry Rhodes officiating. Houston Funeral Home will be in charge of all arrangements.

Burial will be at Houston City Cemetery in Houston, MS.

Survivors include her two sons; Bill (Judi) Caldwell of Oxford, and Wally (Janet) Caldwell of Destin, Florida, two granddaughters; Lauren Caldwell of Birmingham, Alabama, and Jessica (Gant) Boone of Oxford, and one grandson, Criss Caldwell of Destin, Florida; and one great-grandchild, Adele Boone.

Virginia Caldwell is preceded in death by her husband, George Caldwell who died Feb. 16, 2002, her parents, one brother, Jack May, one sister, Hazel Sledge, and her daughter, Judy Gaither, and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Gant Boone, Clyde Dyson, George Powell, Charlie Tillman, David Woodruff and Bobby Mooneyham.

Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Bridge Club.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Houston, MS.
