Aside from watching the ball drop in Times Square, perhaps no event is more ubiquitous with New Year’s Eve than a champagne toast at midnight. And for that, the liquor stores in Oxford are more than ready.

A survey of liquor stores in the area proved this quickly.

Steve Snyder, the proprietor of West Jackson Wine and Spirits agreed that champagne along with wine is a top seller in preparation for the holiday.

In terms of holidays, New Year’s ranks close to the top of the list for liquor store overall sales.

“New Year’s is definitely in our top three for sales,” said Jed Hannaford of PJ’s Wine and Liquor. “Christmas and Thanksgiving are usually a bigger deal. The week that Christmas and New Year’s always falls on is always busy.”

Hannaford added that other liquor choices are in high demand apart from the usual champagne.

“People buy lots of shooters, too; people are wanting to take shots to get ready.”
