UPDATE: Lafayette County School Board still mum on board attorney

- Bruce Newman State Senator Gray Tollison (R-Oxford) says he is in opposition of a plan to dissolve the Mississippi Arts Commission and place it with the Mississippi Development Authority.
Lafayette County School Board officials remain tight-lipped regarding the recent decision not to renew Gray Tollison’s contract as board attorney.
The EAGLE reached out to Adam Pugh, the superintendent of Lafayette County schools, by phone and email, but has received no response. The President of the Lafayette County School Board, Bill McGregor, also had no comment on the situation when contacted by phone Friday afternoon.
The EAGLE also made an attempt Friday to obtain a copy of the most recent school board minutes and was told by an employee at the district office the minutes would not be available until next week.
Tollison, a state senator since 1996, was appointed chairman of the Senate Education Committee in 2012.
He is a lawyer at Tollison Law Firm in Oxford with a primary focus on personal injury, products liability and government relations.
Tollison is a graduate of Rhodes College and the University of Mississippi School of Law.
Tollison responded to an email this morning, confirming the action of the school board.
