Mississippi State may have beaten Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl this year in football, but Oxford is beating Starkville to the first Chipotle in the state.

Oxford’s Chipotle restaurant will open Monday (January 30, 2017) after months of preparation for its Jackson Avenue location, according to a company tweet. It will be the first Chipotle location in Mississippi (the nearest is Tuscaloosa, Alabama).

An Ole Miss student had asked @chipotletweets this week when the Oxford restaurant would open and the reply was “January 30.”

Chipotle is a popular fast casual restaurant that claims fresh ingredients for its burritos, bowls and more. It will be located at 2151 Jackson Ave. West in Oxford next to a new Five Guys burgers, set to open later this year.

Earlier this year Oxford’s Chipotle applied for a liquor license (some Chipotle restaurants sell margaritas, wine and beer).
