Former Ole Miss linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche falls asleep on radio

Denzel Nkemdiche went on a Mississippi radio station to do an interview Thursday, but the interview with the former Ole Miss linebacker never actually happened.

That’s because Nkemdiche fell asleep on air.

During what turned out to be a brief appearance on Head to Head hosted by Richard Cross and Matt Wyatt on SuperTalk Mississippi, Nkemdiche spent the handful of seconds he was on the air snoozing. Nkemdiche can be heard making a sound that crosses between heavy breathing and light snoring as Cross tries to start the interview. A couple more attempts by Cross to get Nkemdiche’s attention proved to be futile, and the show’s producers couldn’t get Nkemdiche back on the line.

It’s not like Nkemdiche had to get up early to do the hit. The show airs weekdays from 3-6 p.m.

Not that odd things involving Nkemdiche are anything new. His up-and-down career with the Rebels ended abruptly after he was hospitalized for an undisclosed reason in November 2015. A freshman All-American in 2012, Nkemdiche missed the final three games of his senior season and was admitted to a hospital again a month later.

Nkemdiche’s younger brother, former All-American defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, just finished his rookie season with the Arizona Cardinals after being a first-round pick, but the older Nkemdiche hasn’t tried to get back into football. He’s instead looking into a music career, which was going to be one of the talking points during his radio hit.

Maybe another time. For now, you can listen to Thursday’s airwave awkwardness here.
