Ole Miss is zeroing in on a staffer at another Southeastern Conference Western Division school to be its defensive line coach.

Freddie Roach is in line to fill the position, according to a report from Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. Roach has spent the previous two seasons at Alabama as the director of player development.

Roach would replace Tray Scott, who left for the same position at Georgia earlier this month after less than six weeks on the job. Should Roach be hired, he would finalize Ole Miss’ on-field coaching staff.

Roach, who played at Alabama, coached defensive ends and outside linebackers at South Alabama from 2013-14. He also spent time as an assistant at East Mississippi Community College and Murray State while serving as the assistant strength and conditioning coach at Alabama from 2008-10.

A four-year letterwinner for the Crimson Tide from 2002-05, Roach was a two-time All-SEC linebacker and was named to Alabama’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s.
