Girl Scout cookies are now available in Lafayette County with proceeds to benefit the local troops.

In Oxford, the booth locations include Larson’s Cashsaver, Kroger, and Walmart starting this weekend.  In addition to favorites like Samoas and Thin Mints, there is a new cookie offered this year – S’mores.  The cost of most cookies is $4 a box, with $5 for Toffee-tastic and S’mores.

Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls learn goal setting, decision making, people skills, and money management.

The profits support the upkeep of Girl Scout camps, a wide variety of programs, and troop-level activities.

For example, Troop 10580 used cookie profits to take memorable trips such as the USS Alabama, the Stennis Space Center, and the birthplace of Girl Scout founder Juliette Lowe in Savannah, Georgia.

Troop 13221 used profits to give back to the community, including donations to veterans and gifts to local children for Christmas.

Other troops use profits to attend local Girl Scout programming like the Memphis Zoo Snooze and camp experiences.

“Stop by the cookie booth even if you do not want to purchase cookies,” Girl Scout leader Holly Reynolds said. “Ask the girls about their Girl Scout experience. The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”
