Prom is a memorable night for high school students, unless the cost takes the fun away.

That’s why a project underway for local high school students this year is both interesting and of merit, since it will help dozens if not hundreds of students get dressed for the prom at no cost.

Organized by volunteers Rose Hickey and Corinne Jackson, with the help from Oxford Bridal and some Delta State sororities, dresses have been collected so that Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley high school students can get fitted for the prom with a nice dress on loan.

Most prom dresses are only worn one night anyway so the expense can be a burden for many students. But getting the chance to borrow a dress for one night takes the cost away and gives the opportunity for a special memory.

This effort will be meaningful to those who get dresses for prom night but it speaks to something larger that we should all celebrate.

Working together and using creativity, we have many resources to tap in to making a difference for others in our community.

We always want to celebrate good deeds in Oxford and Lafayette County and this one is well-deserving.
