Eugene Webster Fitts

A service to celebrate the life of Eugene Webster Fitts will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Corinth, with Bro. Dennis Smith officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Yellow Leaf Baptist Church Cemetery in Oxford.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home 613 Bunch St. Corinth, MS 38834.

Gene passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth due to heart failure. “Gene” was born December 13, 1939 in Pontotoc. He was a 1957 graduate of Pontotoc High School. Gene attended Mississippi State University where he cheered on the Bulldogs as a Cheerleader during his freshman and sophomore years. Gene transferred to the “school up North” following his marriage to his sweetheart, Sandra Lynn Hill of Oxford, on August 23, 1959. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in May 1961 with a degree in accounting.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra Lynn Hill Fitts, one son, Britt Alan and his wife Sonia Fernandes Fitts of Oxford, and Campo Grande, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Brazil, two daughters, Lynn Fitts Sewell of Corinth and Tracy Fitts King and her husband Stephen King also of Corinth. Gene was fondly known as Pop by his five grandchildren; Britt’s children Bradley Fitts, Andrea Fitts and Carey Fitts of Oxford, and Lynn’s children, Emily Sewell of Pontotoc and Shelby Sewell of Corinth. Pop adored his great grandchildren, Andrea and Craig Goodwin’s little girls, Brayleigh and Aubrey Goodwin and Bradley and Juana Velez’s son Damion Aldrich. He was dearly loved by Bradley, Andrea and Carey’s mother, Patricia Crocker Farrar and Emily’s dad Tom Sewell of Pontotoc.

Other family include Sandra’s sister Deidra Hill Davis and Malcolm Davis of Jackson, and several surviving cousins.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Webster and Ruby Elledge Fitts.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to First Baptist Church, Corinth; Yellow Leaf Baptist Church, Oxford Cemetery fund, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or other charities of your choice.
