Dan Werner wasn’t out of work long.

Ole Miss’ former offensive coordinator has been hired by Alabama in an off-field role as an offensive analyst, according to a report by Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. Alabama has not officially announced the hire.

Werner, who was fired in early December as part of Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze’s staff shakeup following a 5-7 season, will take the place of Steve Sarkisian, who served in the same role before being elevated to offensive coordinator for the national championship game after Lane Kiffin left to be Florida Atlantic’s head coach. Sarkisian left Nick Saban’s staff in February to call plays for the Atlanta Falcons.

Saban filled the vacancy with former New England Patriots assistant Brian Daboll, who worked for Saban as a graduate assistant at Michigan State in the late 1990s.

Werner was the Rebels’ offensive coordinator each of Freeze’s first five years in Oxford and also served as the quarterbacks coach, helping develop junior college transfers Bo Wallace (9,534 passing yards, 63 percent completions, 62 touchdowns, 41 interceptions from 2012-14) and Chad Kelly, who holds 25 school records and accounted for 7,632 total yards and 65 touchdowns in just two seasons with the Rebels.

Ole Miss beat Alabama in 2014 and 2015 with Werner’s offenses putting up more than 36 points a game against the Tide over the last three seasons. The Rebels in 2015 set program records for scoring, touchdowns, passing yards and total offense.
