Local man killed in Thursday wreck

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a wreck that killed a local man Thursday night.

According to Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy, Jarvis Carter, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck that occurred around 9 p.m. on County Road 101, (old Highway 7), near the North Oxford Baptist Church.

Chief Investigator Alan Wilburn said there were two carsĀ and six people involved in the wreck. Several were flown to hospitals in Memphis and Jackson for serious injuries. Jarvis was a passenger in one of the vehicles.

Wilburn said the cause of the wreck is still under investigation and no charges had been filed as of this afternoon.

Carter was the father of an infant daughter and attended Oxford High School.
