The National Drug Take Back Day arrives this Saturday as a means of taking dangerous drugs from homes so they don’t reach people that don’t need them.

Oxford and Ole Miss police departments are participating, serving as collection agents for citizens that want to clear out unused drugs from their shelves, including opiates in particular.

Opioid addiction has become an epidemic in America and many start with prescriptions.

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse and medications.

It’s happening on April 29th and is hosted by the Drug Enforcement Agency, but law enforcement around the country participate and allow you to drop off old, unused prescriptions.

There are two locations in Oxford that will be taking back drugs on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m:

• The Old Armory Pavillon at 413 South 14th Street in Oxford

• The Ole Miss Welcome Center (staffed by the Ole Miss Police Department) at 140 University Avenue.

We hope Oxford and Lafayette County residents will clear out unused prescription drugs so they don’t fall into the wrong hands.
