Tonight, Oxford’s annual Double Decker Arts Festival gets underway with promises of being one of the best yet.

Saturday’s headlining music acts, including Dr. John of New Orleans and Nathaniel Ratliff & the Night Sweats, are strong, with an appeal to a wide range of ages. And the warm weather on tap, with little chance of rain, should make investigating the arts and food vendors quite enjoyable.

Typically, when 60,000 come out in Oxford there’s Ole Miss football involved. But the Double Decker Arts Festival is uniquely Oxford, a two-day event centered on the city’s quaint Square that brings the best of everything together, including friends, arts, music, and food.

Parking is the biggest challenge visitors will have this year, since the bigger the crowd, the more trouble visitors have parking close to the Square, since our postage stamp of greatness only has so much access.

Everything shuts down around the Square today so set-up can begin and that means riding city’s transportation or shuttles or walking will be the best means of getting to the Square for those who don’t live downtown.

But all-in-all it’s worth every bit of the effort since our city shines in the spring and nothing lights it up better than Double Decker.
