The New York Jets selected former Ole Miss cornerback Derrick Jones in the sixth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.

Jones was taken with the 20th pick of the round, just six picks after former teammate D.J. Jones. He was the 204th overall selection.

A rangy athlete who began his career as a receiver, the 6-foot-2, 188-pound Jones played in 44 games at Ole Miss with eight starts. A suspension early in the season limited Jones to just nine games as a senior, but he started three of them and had his only two interceptions last season.

Jones flashed his athleticism with a strong showing at Ole Miss’ pro day earlier this month. He ran a sub-4.5 40-yard dash while recording a vertical jump of 41 inches and a broad jump of 11-0.

The Eupora native finished his career with 54 tackles, half of them coming as a freshman.
