Early college football signing period approved

The wait for an early signing period in college football is over.

The Collegiate Commissioners Association on Monday approved an early period that will go into effect this year. High school seniors in the 2018 class will be allowed to ink with the school of their choice during a 72-hour period from Dec. 20-22, 2017.

The early signing period was introduced in April as part of an overhaul to the recruiting calendar. Prospective players who don’t want to sign early will still be able to do so during the usual signing period starting on the first Wednesday in February.
