Appreciate support for candidate forum

The League of Women Voters Oxford/North Mississippi would like to thank the community and the Board of Aldermen candidates in Wards 2 and 6 for their participation in our first candidate forum on May 23. We also appreciate the support for this event provided by the Oxford Eagle and the Historic Sites Commission.

It was wonderful to see the standing-room-only crowd of citizens from all political persuasions that filled the historic Burns Belfrey on Tuesday evening to listen, learn, and question the candidates running for these two offices.

The thoughtful and very civil discussion of some of the major issues facing Oxford today was, indeed, “democracy at work” in a manner that made us proud.
