The Oxford Police Department arrested two Batesville men for allegedly stealing money from an Oxford business.

On Friday, OPD officers responded to Dealz Auto at 2211 University Avenue for a reported theft. Upon arrival officers were able to determine that $1,800 was stolen from the manager’s office. The money was on the manager’s desk and inside a moneybag underneath the desk at the time it was stolen. The manager reported that he left the business for a brief time and upon returning to his office he found that the money was stolen. The only customers at the business were a female with a young child and two adult males. All four rode together and left at the same time so the manager felt that one of them had taken the money from his office.

Officers were able to determine who owned the vehicle and her current address was in Batesville. Officers reached out to the Batesville Police Department and asked them to try and locate the vehicle. Once Batesville PD located the vehicle, the female voluntarily drove to the Batesville Police Department. The Oxford Police Department sent an investigator to Batesville to interview the female.

It was determined that the female did not steal the money, but felt that one of the adult males who accompanied her to the auto repair shop did steal the money from the manager’s office.

The adult males, who were identified as Charles McKinney, 18, and Laderrick Dunlap, 20, both of Batesville, voluntarily came to the Batesville Police Department and both interviewed separately. McKinney and Dunlap both admitted to going into the office and McKinney stated he took the money.

Both males were arrested for commercial burglary and transported back to Oxford before being booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center.

They were taken to the Lafayette County Justice Court Center and given a bond of $10,000 each for commercial burglary.
