We don’t know of any other significant professional sporting that Oxford has hosted in the past and we certainly can’t think of a more fitting one to land.

That’s why we are handing out hearty congratulations to The Country Club of Oxford for landing a Web.com Tour event for April 2018. PGA golf’s version of Double-A professional baseball, the Web.com Tour is tomorrow’s rising stars playing in approachable venues that allow fans to be up-close-and-personal with the action.

Hosting the tournament in the spring when Oxford is at its best and hosting the tournament at our up-and-coming country club course, carefully developed under the leadership of longtime resident Larry Britt and fellow owners, is a win, win, win for the community.

The very notion that Oxford has arrived at the point that we can land a bona fide pro tour event — sanctioned by the PGA — means that our little city is showing its growing strength.

We are pleased with the quality of The Country Club of Oxford, which has been in steady development and improvements since Britt’s group took ownership in 2012. And, we are pleased to welcome the Web.com Tour to Oxford in April 2018.

This is a wonderful addition to our city’s rise as a year-round destination with an array of activities for visitors.
