Paul Tobin Maginnis

Dr. Paul Tobin Maginnis, 70, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. A private graveside service will be held Friday, June 16, 2017, in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends for a celebratory reception in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home Friday, June 16, 2017, from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Paul Tobin “PT” Maginnis and Emily Maginnis Robishaw, Dr. Maginnis was a retired professor of Computer Science at the University of Mississippi. He was a member of the Catholic Church in Menominee, Michigan, was a sailing enthusiast and enjoyed riding motorcycles. An avid fan of all movies, he particularly loved action movies and cartoons and was a devotee of musical theater. He was the founder of Sair Technologies, Gunsmanship, Inc., owner of Tobix, associate member at Wave Technologies and an associate staff member at Global Technology Systerms (GTS). Additionally, he was a member of the Oxford Amateur Radio Club, National Rifle Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was a certified home inspector.  Dr. Maginnis worked briefly at the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences prior to becoming a tenured Professor of Computer Science where he was employed for 36 years.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Erin Elizabeth Dillon-Maginnis.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Anneal Dillon of Oxford; daughters, Lindsay Dillon-Maginnis of Oxford, and Meredith Dillon-Maginnis of Augusta, Georgia; son, Jordan Dillon-Maginnis of Oxford; sisters, Michael Leonard of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Moira Dean of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Katie Winlinski of Green Bay, Wisconsin and brothers, Jack Maginnis of Washington, DC, and Kevin Maginnis of Chicago.
