WATER VALLEY – For the second straight week, the Water Devil Blue Devils beat their opponent by 30 points or more. This time, the J. Z. George Jaguars went scoreless while the Blue Devils piled on 40 points at Bobby Clark Stadium on Friday night.

The Blue Devils (2-1) scored four rushing touchdowns, while both Ty Varner and Blayne Clark threw a touchdown.

The passing game was successful due to solid play calling, execution and Water Valley Head Coach Brad Embry’s ability to work with what the J.Z. George defense gave him. “The offense was dictated by (J.Z. George). They put a bunch of guys in the box, played zero-man coverage and had no safety help. That’s just what you are supposed to do.”

Along with two passing touchdowns and 249 yards through the air, the Blue Devils scored the first of four rushing touchdowns just seven minutes into the game. Trenderrious Brock scored from six yards out after being set up by a 35-yard pass from Ty Varner to Bud Tolbert. After a quick possession from the J.Z. George Jaguars (0-3), Water Valley would score on the second play of their next drive. This time, Martavius Rockett beat multiple defenders to the corner on a 20-yard run.

With a 13-point lead, the Jaguars needed a score and put together their longest drive of the game, but to no avail. Water Valley would get the ball back on their own 32-yard line and put together a drive that would eventually lead to another Rockett touchdown with just 14 seconds left in the half. A bobbled pass was safely secured by Rockett and the Blue Devils had all the momentum in their favor heading into halftime.

The first drive of the second half consisted of five first downs, nine penalties and one Blue Devil touchdown. Blayne Clark found Bud Tolbert down the sideline for a 30-yard touchdown to put Water Valley up 26. Three plays into the next Jaguar drive, a fumble would be recovered by Jeremiah Ray, giving the Blue Devils ideal field possession, which Brock would make the most of. It took two plays for Brock to finally break through the line for a 17-yard touchdown with four minutes left in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter consisted of little ball movement on the side of the Jaguars, with one more Water Valley touchdown. Blayne Clark managed to find space around the edge to cap off a Blue Devil win and consecutive 40-point victory. Water Valley scored in multiple ways and although the passing game was successful, coach Embry still wants a balanced attack.

“We got some pretty good guys on the outside but we want to be balanced,” Embry said. “We want to be able to run the ball no matter what front we get. It might not be easy. It might just be three yards and a cloud of dust but we still want to be balanced.”

The Blue Devils offense has been clicking the past few and they will play their last home game of their three-home game stretch against Bruce (1-2) next Friday.
