Police say Ole Miss student was held against her will in Panola County

The Panola County Sheriff’s Department has filed charges of kidnapping and rape against two men in connection with the kidnapping of an Ole Miss student on Sunday.

Update: 11:35 a.m., Sept. 11 

In a press release, the Oxford Police Department stated that an Ole Miss student was held against her will at a home in Panola County.

The student and a friend left the Square at approximately 1:11 a.m. on Sept. 10 in a gray Honda Pilot with two unidentified black males. After driving around for an hour, the student and the other female passenger exited the vehicle in Lafayette County, with the student re-entering the vehicle. Following that stop, the student was taken into Panola County. OPD first reported the student’s disappearance around 5:45 a.m. on Sept. 10.

According to the press release, a tip was relayed around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 as to the student’s location. The Panola County Sherriff’s Department made contact with the student and removed her from the home. At this time, the names of the suspects and any charges have not been released by the Panola County Sherriff’s Department.

 

Updated, 12:45 a.m., Sept. 11:

A missing Ole Miss student has been found safe after going missing in the early hours of Sept. 10, the Oxford Police Department said in a press release.

The student was reported missing around 5:45 a.m. on Sept. 10, having been last seen on a county road in Lafayette County by a friend.

That friend, whose name was not released by OPD, and the student left the Square together with two unknown black males in a gray Honda Pilot around 1:11 a.m. The vehicle then left the Oxford city limits and traveled into Lafayette County where the second female passenger was left on a county road and picked up around 2:33 a.m. by a deputy from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.

From 2:33 a.m. Sept. 10 to around 12:32 a.m. on Sept. 11, the student’s whereabouts were unknown.

More information is expected to be released by OPD later today.
