2nd prison escapee caught in Mound Bayou

U.S. Marshals have arrested the second of two prisoners who escaped from the Mississippi State Penitentiary early Monday morning.

Ryan Young, 22, was arrested after a short foot pursuit in Mound Bayou on Wednesday night by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

On Tuesday, James R. Sanders, 41, was arrested in West Helena, Arkansas by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. Sanders, a former Lafayette County resident, is serving a life sentence after pleading guilty to murder in 2000.

Sanders and Young escaped early Monday morning.  How the escape occurred is under investigation by the Mississippi Department of Corrections.  Both were considered armed and dangerous. The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force adopted the case Monday.

Numerous agencies assisted in the search for the escapees, including the U.S. Marshals offices in the Eastern District of Arkansas and the Northern District of Mississippi, Mississippi Department of Corrections, Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Drew Police Department, Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department, Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department, Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department, and the Phillips County Sheriff’s Department in Arkansas.
