Ole Miss is known for the tailgating in the Grove and an upcoming event in Oxford will put its own spin on it.

Tailgate for Palmer began in 2016, an event used to raise funds for Palmer’s Home for Children.

“This is the second annual event. We decided to capitalize on what Oxford and Ole Miss are best known for—tailgating. This event provides the best of a tailgate atmosphere without all of the work,” said Vice President of Engagement Sarah Hollins.

“We introduced the Tailgate for Palmer in Oxford as a means of raising awareness and raising funds to support our mission of rescuing and restoring the lives of vulnerable children,” Hollins said.

Palmer Home takes in children in need of a safe and secure place to live regardless of their backgrounds.

Palmer Home operates solely on the generosity of donors.

“Palmer Home cares for approximately 115 children at any given time,” said Hollins. “We have two residential campuses in Columbus and Hernando that serve about 60 children between the two locations. The remainder of our children live with foster families.”

While donations of any size are accepted to help keep The Palmer House running, MaxxSouth Broadband is donating a total of $17,935 worth of advertising and promotion for the event.

“I am in awe at the powerful strides Palmer Home for Children has made in its efforts to introduce children to a loving environment while providing healthy residential care,” said Rick Ferrall, MaxxSouth Broadband Regional General Manager. “We at MaxxSouth hope our involvement will help them continue to grow and bring more awareness to their cause.”

The guests will get to be in the Field Level Club and will have tailgate food prepared by Grit.

The tailgate is Oct. 7 from 7 to 10 p.m.
