Born in Memphis, Tenn to the late William James “Buck” and Corrine Melgara Brown,  Mr. Brown served as a Private First Class in the United States Army. He was a member of Anchor Baptist Church, a retired Deacon, and a Mason. He worked in the Forestry Division of Champion and in maintenance at the Pharmacy School of Ole Miss. “Pop,” as he was lovingly called by his children and grandchildren, was one of the kindest, most Christlike men known by family and friends. He loved Jesus, his family, and especially his wife of 62 years, Sue “Tutu.” Pop’s passions in life were cheering for his Lafayette Commodores in football and working on his cattle farm. His family will miss his unique sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye, and his gentle spirit; but know he is healthy and happy in Heaven with Jesus and Kayla. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Rego Brown and a granddaughter, Kayla Mize.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Alderson Brown of Oxford, Miss; three daughters, Sherry Nelson and her husband, Jeff, of Oxford, Miss, Cynthia Briscoe and her husband, Danny, of Oxford, Miss and Candy Mize and her husband, Rick, of Oxford, Miss; three sons, Johnny Brown, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, of Madison, Miss, Keith Brown and his wife, Becky, of Oxford, Miss and Mark Brown and his wife, Gwenda, of Oxford, Miss; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
