Doris Dulaney Murry

Doris Dulaney Murry, 96, died Oct. 18, 2017, at her residence at Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Oxford, Miss. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Oxford-University United Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Rester and Rev. Warren Black officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Born on May 6, 1921, in Ruleville, MS, to the late Tom and Alberta Dulaney, Mrs. Murry moved to Oxford in 1947 with her husband, Dr. Charles Miller “Bo” Murry. She met Bo on a blind date her first weekend at Ole Miss after transferring from MSCW. They married March 9, 1943, and following her graduation from Ole Miss, moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he completed his medical school training at Jefferson Medical College.

Doris was an active member of Oxford-University United Methodist Church, where she served in many leadership roles, and in her community, where she was supportive of all children’s activities and involved in several civic organizations, including the League of Women Voters and Church Women United. She was a long-time adviser to her sorority, Chi Omega, and a member of the Browning Club for over 60 years.

Known for her humorous and entertaining stories of her childhood in Ruleville and growing up in the Delta, her wit and charm were freely shared with those she met and befriended from all walks of life. In her special way, she generously dispensed advice to her children and grandchildren on what they should be doing with their lives and reminding them to be loyal friends. She will be fondly remembered by the many dear friends she made during her long, happy and busy life and the hospitality she offered to all.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bo Murry.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary “Miss” Miller Delgadillo and her husband, James of Memphis, Tenn. and Marjorie Buckley of Oxford, Miss; son, Tom Murry and his wife, Tootie, of Tupelo, Miss; grandchildren, Anne Delgadillo Goldberg and her husband, Jeffrey of Memphis, Tenn, John Murry of Kilkenny, Ireland, Alex Murry and his wife, Meridith of Brandon, Miss, Andrew Buckley of Atlanta, Ga. and Charlie Buckley and his wife, Amber of Tupelo, Miss. and great-grandchildren, Murry and Mary Miller Goldberg, Evie Murry and Jane Buckley.

Her final gift was a donor to the Medical Education and Research Institute (MERI) in Memphis which conducts hands-on medical training and education for physicians, nurses and other medical professionals.
